Jean Brooks was tired of cars racing up and down the road in front of her house. When the police did nothing, she decided to take matters into her own hands… with a hair dryer.

The resourceful old granny simply stood on her lawn and pointed her hair dryer at oncoming traffic.

Surprisingly, nearly all the motorists assumed it was a speed detector and started to slow down.

“The problem with the traffic was that it was mental, kids with what I like to call sewing machines on wheels or quad bikes and mothers were driving at around 50 or 60 mph because they were late to school,” Brooks told The Sun. “I thought I’d get my hair dryer, stand by the gate and follow them up the road with it so they must’ve thought I was a nutter.”

Not everyone was pleased, and more than one driver pulled over to confront Brooks. “A guy built like a toilet door stopped and got out of his car and said, ‘What are you doing?’” she recalled. “I said ‘What? This? My hair dryer?’ He was clearly surprised and never said a word. No one scares me, the only thing I’m afraid of is fire and I’m a smoker.”

Neighbors agree that Brooks’ weird plan really works. “It’s made a tremendous difference,” said neighbor Ashley Mays. “No quad bikes, no fast traffic and all thanks to a hair dryer which is amazing. I’m going to put up a yellow box on a pole to look like a speed box after seeing how big an impact it can have.”
