Bruce Springsteen recently made his first appearance on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show. He talked about the death of Clarence Clemons, an E Street band saxophonist, and the specifics of selling the rights to his back catalog. He also talked about his new soul covers album, Only The Strong Survive.
Springsteen also talked about the current state of the music business and said that he was glad he started his career when he did instead of now.According to Springsteen’s remarks to Stern, “I think music has had to share the cultural arena with video games, movies, TV, everything else, everything else you can imagine.”That was just today.I have to say, I’m glad I won’t be doing it today.
Evidently, the path to musical stardom in the 1960s was different from the path it is today.Springsteen concedes that it was much simpler in those days.He stated, “Because of what we did, we lived in a golden age.It is a blessing that if you were a young guitar player in 1967, 1975, or 1985, you arrived just as the entire industry transformed into something that no one anticipated. However, I wouldn’t want to begin now, no.I have no idea if you can make things.Simply put, it’s a different world.”
The boss then turned his attention to an artist who started her career in the 21st century but has since made it big.Springsteen said the following about Taylor Swift and his daughter’s love for her:It has evolved.Basically, my daughter is a huge Taylor Swift fan.She told me when I picked her up from the airport, “Dad, Taylor Swift has got a banging new record.”So I think, “A powerful new record?Alright.’From Newark, she plays it at maximum volume for me.dancing while seated.”That’s what I like to see,” I declared. It was good.
Swift and Springsteen seem to have met once or twice, and the boss said that he likes her music. He stated,The album is excellent; She has a lot of talent.I have a brief acquaintance with her.She is an excellent writer. So, hey, there are people out there who produce great work and records, and those records continue to bring people a lot of joy. That will continue. It just won’t be the same, you know. That concludes it.
